Venlo was once a military checkpoint of the roman empire, later in 13th century it was a place for market. Venlo became a town in the year 1343. During the World War II Venlo was important for the military. A lot of its historic buildings were destroyed. Today Venlo is a popular city for shopping and weekend trips. Blerick, Belfeld and Tegelen are districts of Venlo. In the district Tegelen its worth to see the monastery village Steyl. Venlo is surrounded by agricultural companies. Asparagus is a good growing fruit in this part of the country.
