Bergen op Zoom
Already in the 13th century Bergen op Zoom was sourrounded by dam and moat. In 1330 it had a wall and became 17 years later the city privilegs (1347). Many monuments document the richness of this city while the middle age. The lords and govenors had the title "Marquise" and called their residence "Makiezenhof". Today the Makiezenhof is a museum. The great age of Bergen op Zoom was over while the 80 years war.
